Description

Varagu Murukku is a variation of the traditional Murukku snack made using varagu flour, also known as Kodo Millet flour. Kodo Millet is a nutritious grain commonly consumed in South India.

To prepare Varagu Murukku, varagu flour is mixed with rice flour, urad dal flour (black gram flour), and spices. The spices commonly used include red chili powder, asafoetida, salt, and sometimes sesame seeds or cumin seeds for added flavor.

Water is added gradually to the flour mixture to form a smooth dough. The dough is then loaded into a Murukku press or extruder fitted with a disc for making Murukku. The dough is extruded through the press directly into hot oil, forming spiral shapes.

The shaped dough spirals are then deep-fried until they turn golden brown and crispy. Once fried, Varagu Murukku is drained on paper towels to remove excess oil and allowed to cool.

The end result is a crunchy and flavorful snack with a unique texture and taste, thanks to the addition of varagu flour. Varagu Murukku is enjoyed as a teatime snack or as part of festive snack platters. Its savory flavor and satisfying crunch make it a favorite among snack enthusiasts of all ages. Additionally, its nutritional value adds to its appeal
