Description
Ragi Murukku is a nutritious twist on the traditional Murukku, a popular South Indian snack made from rice flour and urad dal flour (black gram flour). Instead of using only rice flour, Ragi Murukku incorporates ragi flour, also known as finger millet flour, which adds a nutty flavor and boosts the nutritional value of the snack.
To prepare Ragi Murukku, a dough is made by mixing ragi flour, rice flour, urad dal flour, and spices. The spices commonly used include chili powder, cumin seeds, sesame seeds, asafoetida, and salt. The dough is kneaded with water to form a smooth consistency.
Once the dough is ready, it is shaped into spirals or coils using a Murukku press or mold. These shaped dough spirals are then deep-fried in hot oil until they turn golden brown and crispy.
The end result is a crunchy and flavorful snack with the earthy taste of ragi flour complementing the spices. Ragi Murukku is enjoyed as a teatime snack or as part of festival celebrations. It’s a healthier alternative to traditional Murukku, thanks to the added nutritional benefits of ragi flour, which is rich in fiber, calcium, and other essential nutrients
