Description
Thinai Om Podi is a nutritious variation of the traditional Om Podi, which is a flavorful South Indian spice mix or condiment used to enhance the taste of various dishes. Instead of using conventional ingredients, Thinai Om Podi incorporates Thinai flour, also known as Foxtail Millet flour.
To prepare Thinai Om Podi, Thinai flour is dry roasted until it becomes fragrant and golden brown. Other ingredients such as dried red chilies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, peppercorns, asafoetida, curry leaves, and salt are also dry roasted separately until they release their aroma.
Once all the ingredients are roasted, they are allowed to cool and then ground into a fine powder using a spice grinder or mortar and pestle. The Thinai flour is then mixed with the ground spices thoroughly. The resulting Thinai Om Podi is stored in an airtight container for future use.
Thinai Om Podi can be sprinkled on top of various South Indian dishes like idli, dosa, or rice to add a burst of flavor. It can also be mixed with ghee or oil to create a flavorful dip or spread. Additionally, Thinai Om Podi can be used as a seasoning for vegetable stir-fries or lentil dishes.
This variation of Om Podi not only enhances the taste of dishes but also adds the nutritional benefits of Thinai, which is rich in fiber, protein, and essential nutrients
