Description
Kara Seedai is a savory and crunchy snack popularly made in South India, especially during festivals like Krishna Jayanthi (also known as Gokulashtami). It is a variation of the traditional Seedai snack, which is typically made as a sweet treat.
To make Kara Seedai, a dough is prepared using rice flour, urad dal flour (black gram flour), asafoetida, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, salt, and sometimes other spices like chili powder for added heat. The ingredients are mixed together to form a stiff dough.
Small balls of the dough are then shaped by hand into tiny cylindrical shapes or balls. These shaped dough balls are then deep-fried in hot oil until they turn golden brown and crispy. It’s important to fry them on medium heat to ensure they cook evenly and become crunchy without burning.
Once fried, Kara Seedai is allowed to cool and then stored in an airtight container. It can be enjoyed as a snack on its own or served with tea or coffee. The combination of savory spices and crunchy texture makes Kara Seedai a delightful treat for any occasion
