Description
Pulippu Thenkuzhal is a traditional South Indian snack known for its tangy flavor and crispy texture. It is a variation of the classic Thenkuzhal, a savory snack typically made during festivals and special occasions.
To prepare Pulippu Thenkuzhal, rice flour and urad dal flour (black gram flour) are mixed with spices and seasonings to form a dough. The dough is then shaped into long cylindrical strands using a special press or mold with a star-shaped disc.
These shaped dough strands are then deep-fried until they turn golden brown and crispy. Once fried, they are drained of excess oil.
The unique aspect of Pulippu Thenkuzhal lies in its tangy flavor, which is achieved by incorporating tamarind pulp or dried tamarind powder into the dough along with other spices like chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Sometimes, additional ingredients like sesame seeds or asafoetida are also added to enhance the flavor.
Pulippu Thenkuzhal is enjoyed as a crunchy and tangy snack on its own or served as part of a festive snack platter. It’s a popular choice during festivals like Diwali and is loved by people of all ages for its irresistible taste and texture
